Two Coins-A-Meal

Lake Huron Presbytery (LHP) with the Evangelical Presbyterian Churches of Costa Rica (IEPC)

"Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me."  Matthew 18:5

A History

  • The Presbytery of Lake Huron established our partnership with the FIEC (now IEPC) churches in costa Rica in 1989.
  • Hunger among those in the IEPC communities was early recognized as a growing problem, especially among children who make up more than 30% of the population.
  • Since the beginning, the Presbytery of Lake Huron has dedicated half of the Two Coins-A-Meal offering to help alleviate hunger in the IEPC communities.
  • Hot meals are prepared and served by the loving hands of volunteers in the IEPC congregations.  The number of meals per week is limited only by the offering received from our Presbytery.  Currently, more that 300 children in these impoverished Costa Rican communities depend upon our Two Coin-A-Meal offering.  This is only a small fraction of the very hungry children in the IEPC neighborhoods.

Your Two Coins Offering and Its Lifegiving Impact

  • Your two coins-a dime and a quarter donated once a day . . . .  $.35 x 30 days = $10.50/month - $.35 x 365 days = $125.75/year
  • 50% of your Two Coins offering is used to support the IEPC hunger program.  This $64 = 2 meals a week for a year for a hungry child in Costa Rica.
  • The remaining 50% of your offering supports hunger programs determined by your local church (25%) and LHP (25%).
  • the church with 100 families each giving $.35 a day for a year, would provide 2 warm meals each week for 100 children.

Let's commit ourselves as disciples to generosity, for we have been blessed and are called to be a blessing.
