Café Montreat

Café Montreat is an exciting program run completely by the youth. The Café Montreat is located in Fellowship Hall and open on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Café Montreat is a small scale coffee house. We serve gourmet-style espresso beverages, made to order by our youth. Each month we also feature exciting and yummy specials. Café Montreat is host to the Coffee and Fellowship Hour following the 10:45 a.m. worship service. As a gift to the congregation and a thank you for their support, youth prepare and serve fair-trade coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Congregation members regularly add to our great set-up by donating cookies and goodies for the enjoyment of fellowship participants.

Café Montreat operates on donations made for espresso beverages. All proceeds from Café Montreat go to support youth participation in Montreat Summer Youth Conferences.

A Montreat Summer Youth Conference is a truly incredible experience for our youth. It is one of the pinnacle events of our youth program year.  Youth sign up to participate in Montreat Summer Youth Conferences in early fall and spend the year participating in Montreat fundraisers and youth activities to build relationships with the other youth planning to attend Montreat.  Participation in Montreat Summer Youth Conferences is an expensive fee.  Youth participants pay registration fees for half the cost.  The Currie Youth Fund and Montreat fundraisers cover the remainder of the cost of our week.  Montreat Summer Youth Conferences are located in Montreat, North Carolina, just east of Asheville, nestled in the heart of the Blue Mountains. The week at Montreat is spent with thousands of other youth from around the country. Youth participate daily in hearing keynote speakers, building relationships with their small group (made up of youth from all over the country) worship services, hiking and other nature activities, and devotions and bonding with their “back-home group.” The week is the last activity that graduating seniors participate in as members of the PYC Senior High Fellowship group. The week usually includes time to recognize the contributions of those seniors and the “passing of the torch” to the grade below. Each year, we begin as separate youth signing up for a conference and throughout the year we become a family. Our week at Montreat had been described by many as “heaven on earth” and is one that no one youth can quickly forget.

The youth are grateful for the support and encouragement of the congregation in their efforts to raise funds for Montreat. Café Montreat is just one of those expressions. By supporting these programs, you give our youth the opportunity to have a life-altering week. Thank you for your support, encouragement, and love!
